Dan Kovac, and the four people who work with him.

Seventeen years on the tools, trading as Kestrel Air since 2016. Based in Cheltenham, working twelve bayside and south-east suburbs.

Dan spent his first seven years installing for two of the bigger heating and cooling firms in Melbourne's south-east. He was good at it and never saw a customer twice. Someone else quoted the job, and someone else took the call when the unit played up a winter later. He started Kestrel Air in 2016 with one van and a mobile number so that the person who measured the house would be the person answerable for it afterwards.

Ten years on he still does every site measure himself, and most of the installs. Repairs are shared across the crew depending on who is closest. The one thing he has handed over is the phone. Priya has run it since 2018, which is why it gets answered.

How a one-van outfit became five people.

    Callbacks stop depending on whether Dan is on a roof.

  3. 2020Marco Furlan joins as licensed gasfitter.

    Ducted gas servicing and repairs come in-house instead of being referred out.

  4. 2022Second van and two technicians.

    Installs no longer wait on Dan's diary. He keeps the site measures.

  5. 2024 to nowGas-to-electric ducted changeovers become the main install work.

    Splits and servicing carry on as before.
